The IoT platform http://cloud.zclink.com was established to complement Zhichuan Technology’s wireless tilt sensors and other related IoT sensors, facilitating users in the field of geotechnical and structural health monitoring around the world to collect data from ZC sensors, view data and download data.
ZC’s wireless tilt sensor, either based on NB-IoT technology or based on 4G CAT1 technology, has a unique tilt alert function that its rivals do not have. Traditionally, tilt sensors send tilt readings, as well as temperature and battery voltage readings, to the platform. They don’t send alerts, and the platform judges if an alert should be activated, based on the tilt readings received. The users can set the alert threshold at the platform. For example, if we set the alert angle to 3 degrees, when a reading from a certain tilt sensor contains a tilt that exceeds 3 degrees, alarm will be triggered at the platform. However, at the device end, sensor readings are uploaded in intervals, such as 15 minutes, an hour, 6 hours, or even 24 hours, so there can be no alarm triggered at all if a significant tilt happens between two uploads. This is an issue.
ZC’s wireless tilt sensors can detect whether its tilt exceeds a pre-set threshold, such as 3 degrees, while operating at ultra-low power consumption. Once the tilt of a certain axis exceeds this threshold, the sensor will promptly upload an alarm frame, and the platform will immediately receive this alarm information. This feature has a crucial effect in reducing risks and minimizing losses for certain high-risk civil engineering projects.
The platform receives alarms, which can be seen by users logging into the platform. However, if the user is not watching the platform, he may miss some important alarm information. In order to ensure that users can receive alarm information in a timely manner, ZC has added email notification function to the IoT platform. The email message reads like this:
[ZCLINK] Device: 2205530482, Status: alarm, xAxisAngle: -3.5246, yAxisAngle: 0.0047, Voltage: 3.65, please deal with it in time to avoid danger.
Considering the widespread use of mobile phones, if alerts can be pushed to the phone, users can be aware of device alarms earlier and actions can be carried out more quickly. Soon, with the efforts of ZC software engineers, WhatsApp notification function was integrated into ZC platform. With notification permission of the WhatsApp app enabled, customers will receive sensor alarms on their mobile phones at any time. This is not only convenient, but quieter and easier to manage as well, compared to SMS notification.
